Ducks & Dahlias is small farm based out of Sterling, Massachusetts. It's currently a solo operation - just me, Bernice!

The Dahlias

My passion for gardening has been a lifelong endeavor - everything from heirloom tomatoes to corn to roses to kale to cosmos - but about 5 years ago I was introduced to the world of dahlias by a dear friend - and the addiction began!

This friend had asked me to divide her tubers - which I had never done before - but I did my best and kept a few for myself. Why not try dahlias?

Well that was the beginning of the end for me LOL. Those few tubers had me hooked! After the first season with Kelvin Floodlight and Sweet Nathalie, I needed more.

And more, and more. And omg look at this sale, maybe just a few more.

It took about 3 seasons to really perfect growing, dividing, and storing. But now that I have a really tight system, it has been absolutely amazing to share all the hard (and fun) work with all of you!

The Ducks

I have always been an animal lover. My goal in life has always been to have a functioning farm. Well, we're getting there!

I first started with chickens about a decade ago. They're fun. I like them. I like eggs. I have a LOT of chickens. But as they say, chickens are the gateway drug of livestock...

Since the chickens, I have had turkeys, geese, and, finally, ducks. I was never really interested in ducks - they seemed too messy and too much maintenance. But after seeing Munchkin (RIP girl) on Dunkin Ducks, I just HAD to have a call duck. I had never seen miniature ducks before and it was something I NEEDED in my life.

Well, turns out call ducks are my call-ing. I'm absolutely obssessed with my calls - they're my babies. They're like tiny dogs with wings - incredibly smart, curious, friendly, and adorable. And loud. Really, really loud. They are pretty messy though. I call them my Yuckies.

They can fly too! And they do! It's so much fun to watch them fly around the yard. They're such homebodies though they would never, ever fly away!
